Unfortunately there is no way to tell one way or the other...but the good news is that there is always a chance it may not have it. Each pregnancy is totally unrelated to the ones before so it may give her some hope. But since she has had more then one pregnancy with down syndrome her chances are higher then a normal woman's - since either she or her husband is a genetic carrier of the gene.

Unfortunately, yes, this can happen again. Some studies have shown that some women carry this 'down syndrome' gene in their pools and periodically throughout the years of her ability to have a child, this gene can mature and show up. There are tests one can take (amnio...) however, would a female want to abort if she learns ahead of time that the child would be born with a handicap?

YES IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT IS THAT A PROBLEM? SOME MAY SAY YES SOME MAY SAY NO..
IT IS A CHALLENGE BUT THEY CAN LEAD A HAS NORMAL LIFE HAS ANYONE ELSE! AND THEY CAN BE A WONDERFUL ASSET TO ANY PARENT/FAMILY. I HAVE A FEW COUSINS THAT HAVE BEEN BORN WITH MANY DIFFERENT DISABILITIES AND I AM GLAD THEY ARE PART OF MY FAMILY.
I WOULD NEVER GET RID OF A CHILD JUST BECAUSE OF A DISABILITY.
MY SECOND DAUGHTER WAS BORN WITH A MAJOR HEART DEFECT AND AT NO STAGE DID I EVER GIVE UP ON HER, I HAVE BEEN TO HELL AND BACK WITH HER DURING THE LAST 4 YEARS BUT AT THE END SHE IS WORTH EVERY BIT, I COULDN'T IMAGINE MY LIFE WITH OUT HER

She can easily find out by getting a test done to see if this baby has downs syndrome. Her doctor should be doing it anyway because of her last two pregnancies.

It's possible. Your friend needs to be using protection. I mean, come on. It's not like that stuff happens by magic. If she doesn't want to be pregnant, she needs to be on birth control - or even sterilized if she's certain she doesn't want to get pregnant.
