2. what art college provides both illustration AND art education (like for becoming an art teacher)

3. is it more important for a college to be "top notch" and well known or is it more important for a college to have a college that is fit for me?

Can't answer the first and second question. Me no American...
However, I can give some advice on the third question...
Art is a very complex thing, art is not supposed to be learned from an institution, a top notch college doesn't necessarily make you a good artist. A college can only guide you to understand technical and history of art, the rest is up to you.

Great artists became great because they explored art in ways that are different from todays approach. Michaelangelo had to go to the morgue to cut bodies just to sketch human anatomy, and nobody told him to do that. My point is, to become a good artist, you must produce art that is very original, characterized you, and you are happy about it.

So, I would say choose the best college that fits you. I recommend you to visit those colleges and talk to the seniors to find out how things going on there. Remember, colleges can only act as a guide, they don't produce artist like a factory producing electronics, they are just an arrow sign in a highway.

1. Don't know for sure. I live in Chicago so we hear a lot about the Art Institute of Chicago. In the old days, RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) was pretty well-regarded. In my experience, a lot of colleges will claim to be in the top five, whether that ranking was from this year or 20 years ago, so it's hard to trust them.

2. Try this website http://www.artschools.com/articles/ranking/ It lets you search by location, subject, degree, etc. Note that it's most recent rankings on the main page are for 2004.

3. In some professions, where you went to school is a big deal, but I don't think Art Education is one of them. If you're hoping to teach at a top level university, then you'll probably need the best "name" you can get (preferably theirs of course). But if you're planning on teaching at a high school or grade school level that wouldn't be so important.

Your first job will most likely be in the school district where you student teach, so think ahead when picking a college. I believe colleges send their Ed majors to certain districts that they have some sort of agreement with. Decide where you'd like your first job to be and work backward from there (school district desired > college that feeds that district)

You will most likely enjoy your college experience more at a place that fits you, so I'd go with that if I were you.

Good luck!

Gee, one extremely moist day, a team human beings undergrads watched med scholars race snails for the time of a highway next to the scientific midsection on the school. they might desire to have been the pot-smoking scientific docs;-). attempt to be below the phantasm that school grads particularly use what they learn at the same time as they bypass into the interest international. no longer so. placed up extreme college artwork basically sharpens the innovations and could enhance concern-fixing suggestion. If the liberal arts scholars you recognize do no longer something yet hold close out and smoke dope, attempt to be attending a sprint state college indoors the decrease returned woods someplace.

Definetly one that fits your goals better. If you can get accepted to a good college, then all the better. Well known colleges also help you get jobs, but not if you don't have the right degree in what you want. Ivy league colleges don't have as much pull as they use to, either.

Cooper Union in NYC is supposedly the best.
