An election campaign is just an extended job interview and geting elected is getting hired on a short term chntract to do a job the rest of us do not really want to do.

Why then do elected officials act like they are better than the bosses?

This is a legitimate question, and the answer lies in the govt-supported big business scheme: deregulation. Reagan got the ball rolling in the U.S. in the '80s (Mulroney in Canada and Thatcher in GB followed close on his heels) by eliminating social programs and regulatory enforcement programs of all manner and size. The effect was to marginalize the poor but invisibly this time. No social program means no program and no tracking the effects, which tend to present slowly with a wide-reaching ripple effect - very good for politicians because the devastation is not immediately obvious.

Same with deregulation. No consumer protection in, for example, the building industry any longer means no standards enforcement so no protection for consumers. That's why carnage like this http://www.bccondos.ca/ exists, and proliferates. Here's the real kicker: With deregulation, there is no one minding the shop to prevent the sale and resale of lemons and lemon technologies worldwide. Here's just one example (Worldwide condo failures): http://www.bccondos.ca/forums/viewforum.php?f=11.

The Next Big Thing to be facilitated by deregulation will be the unrestricted sale of of a wide array of fraudulent products that exploit very real predictions of global warming / climate change / Green / Sustainable ad infinitum. Here's how the sting begins: http://www.bccondos.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=334.

Most are rich when elected, once elected, more money, more power and the ability to change laws that will not affect their life but will drastically change how we live. These are basically decent and honorable people, however somewhere along the line greed, deception, temptation and go with the flow attitude is overpowering. Soon they believe they are above the law and more superior than the citizens of this wonderful country. Our elected officials must remember HOW and WHY they were elected in the first place. We do not have enough elected officials with the heart to stand and fight for what is right for this country and It's citizens. Peace.

Based solely on the illegal immigration issue, I'd have to guess that, no, they haven't forgotten that they are hired help - they've just forgotten who actually hired them in the first place and who they are suppose to be representing.
