Most of us have realized the power and deliverance in forgiving those who have wronged us but there are times and circumstances in which we must forgive ourselves before we can peacefully move on with our lives. Can you forgive yourself as readily as you forgive others?
I personally believe that forgiveness is a major key to true freedom - whether it means forgiving others or forgiving ourselves.

Yes....self forgiveness is coming more and more quickly for me. I have internalized the idea that I will NEVER be perfect....I can strive for excellence but I will not achieve perfection..in ANY AREA of my life. I am a human being, I will make mistakes and can forgive myself for not knowing what I did not know. I can also forgive myself if I slip back into a bad attitude (this, I believe, drives my behavior) and thank God I dont have to "stay there", in the bad attitude for long. For this, I feel very grateful. Thanks for asking..this is a good question.

I believe the same thing. Freedom from guilt, shame, anger, resentment, bitterness and hate. I went to re-hab 8yrs. ago and that's when I learned to forgive myself. Forget about forgiving others at that time, back then I blamed all my wrongs on someone else. Once I forgave myself, I was able to move on a little more, then forgiving others came more and more.

No, I have not. I can forgive others, but not myself. I do not know why it is so hard to forgive oneself, but I do believe what you said...that forgiving oneself is a major key to true freedom. Very thoughtful question.

I have a hard time forgiving myself, but I accept myself as a fragile human being who makes mistakes. I am comfortable in my fragility, because attaining and maintaining perfection can be difficult and unnecessary.
