Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running.
The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping.
About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than
fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains.
How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism
* Fasting
* A low calorie diet
* Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas, cakes, gum).
* Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods.
* Lack of physical activity.
* Underactive thyroid.
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc...
How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism
* Do not skip any meals
* Exercise daily
* Build your muscles
* Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings
*Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*Eat foods with high nutrition values

Unfortunately the older we get the slower our metabolism gets and our skin gets looser. If you have a little bit of a belly exercise is the answer and all that fast food and junk food that never made you gain weight, well that will change too! Hate to break it to you, but it's just some of the wonderful life changes of growing older

People's body do change as we get older , if you have just a slight weight gain over the past few year's then maybe you have started eating something that you didn't before with a higher calorie intact and not exerciseing enough to burn it off . if the wieght gain was a sudden thing i would advise going to see a doctor to make sure nothing is wrong .

being on your feet is not the answer or all women that work out with kids would be skinny!
You have to use the area of the body you wish to change. Do sit ups, hands in front of your chest, then behind your head, you just used to different areas of the body to work two areas of the body.
Normal is not your gage here, it is you, how do you want to look and better yet, how do you want to feel, i.e. healthy.
working out is a art, if you haven't had any training in this go to a gym and join for 90 days and learn how to work out so you don't hurt your body, and you to build your pride!

Most likely it comes from eating less healthy foods and a more sedentary life-style. Make some small changes in diet and exercise and I bet that flab just goes away in a month or two. Best of luck.

That's a hard one..........there are 3 kinds of muscles there......and then our diet isn't the purest any more. As for the age maybe. I'm trying juicing some live cell foods.........carrots,spinach, and such garlic also and plenty of good water and smoothies with real fruit....can't hurt . Happy TG.

You need to start working on this area with a vengeance, all muscles get lazy if they aren't worked regularly. I suggest pilates, but you could look around at other options too. Pilates works for me.
