My favorite is the when people first face the Alekhine defense. I enjoy welcoming Alice through the looking glass.

1e4 Nf6

Long pause as they figure out that nothing is in the center.

2 Nc3 ... hoping to transpose to "normal" stuff

2... d5

Real long pause then the discovery

3 e5 Driving away the knight!!
3 ... d4 desperado pawns!
Long pause inevitably missing black's check
3 exf6 dxc3 4 fxg7 cxd2+ 5 Qxd2 Qxd2+ 6 Bxd2 Bxg7

It is move #7 and we have traded queens, knights, and two pawns and we are in an endgame/opening hybrid.:)

As white I play the Queens Pawn opening or the KIA formation. As Black vs e4, I play the sicilian defense, vs d4 gruenfeld or the benko gambit. These openings are aggressive vs white because they are active and aggressive. If you want more infos on chess, go to my website

Personally I like the Italian. (Though I like it with white slightly better than black) Mainly because it's a solid, positional opening that has great flexibility.

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bc4 Bc5
4. Nc3 Nf6
5. d3

Here black can play a number of different things. Maybe d6, maybe h6, maybe 0-0, and play continues from there.
