Mmmmm beer in the water? Good idea.
Well, fluoride in small amounts helps prevent tooth decay. Many folk don't have good dental plans, so they don't get those fluoride treatments that help them keep the teeth in the long run. Is it a good idea? Well, we put vitamin D in milk, we put calcium in orange juice...I think it helps.
Is it risk-free? That is not certain. There has been concerned that it could be linked to osteosarcoma in boys. (a type of bone cancer) but the data isn't good. Of course, nothing in life is risk free, is it? It is a balance of benefits versus possible harms, to see what is the best idea.

In Amarillo, TX, the area is famous for it's naturally fluoridated water. The people there have very strong teeth... and in some cases, very brown, though strong, teeth. The water from the Ogalala (sp?) Aquifer has more than trace amounts of fluoride, but it is there nautrally. I have heard that there have been many dental studies in the past on that area.
Trace amounts being added to the water will be a very good thing, especially for people's teeth.

Interestingly, Neo-Conservatives had the idea in the early 60s that fluoridation was a communist plot. Fluoride, in sufficient quantities evidently acts as a tranquilizer (said to have been given by the Soviets to German prisoners) as well as helping your teeth.
Kubrick's movie "Dr. Strangelove" does a takeoff on this in General Jack Ripper's dialog with Peter Sellers about drinking only pure water and grain alcohol.

Yes there is fluoride in tap water. Since your sink is part of your home's pipes then it is tap water. So do I need to really answer that seperately? Telling people to boil water is done at local levels onlyl. There could be many many different reasons for this. Without knowing wehre you are and why they boil alert was put out it would worthless for anybody here to even speculate as to why you have to.

Beer is better for you than fluoride but fluoride treatments and fluoridated water have made my teeth hard as rocks, so I'm not complainin'. My liver is however comlaining and hardening too from my overindulgence in the former.

Beer in our water? What a great idea! As long as they don't use domestic "lite' beer...yuck.
Fluoride has been added to water across the country for generations, and the American life expectancy keeps rising, so I highly doubt it's a conspiracy to poison us. What has happened is that we all have better teeth.
If you don't like it, drink bottled water or make friends with someone who has a well.

I am 64 and was born long before anyone even thought of putting fluoride in drinking water. By the time I was 25 I had a mouthful of fillings. I now have thousands of dollars worth of dental work in my mouth including crowns and inlays. My husband has had similar dental problems.
My daughter who is now 25 has one tiny filling and no other cavities. She has drunk fluorinated water throughout her life. She is otherwise normal.

No I don't think it is dangerous. We have had it in our water system for years and there has been absolutely no case of fluoride poisoning. It is beneficial.
As far as beer in the water. Hmmmm........
I'd prefer Peppermint Schnapps!

Fluoride in the trace amounts that is put in the water does not cause any damage. It is actually beneficial, and it does help prevent tooth decay.

Tap is nasty. I never drink tap water. I have a well. But when when I used to live in a area with tap I always had bottled water to drink. They also say that there is so much female hormones in tap water and men are obviously drinking it too.
