i agree that it is as per lunar cycle, but lunar cycle is of 28 days and it is an continuos process, why only 365 days then in a year.
do u have any idea y they created 12 months of 30 days and only 365 days in a year. y dont we have a year of 395 days or bigger or shorter days.

It's based on a lunar month, which is 28 days from new moon to new moon. And that corresponds most closely with 12 cycles in a year.

Actually, some have more, in that they give you the last month or two of the old year and/or the first month or two of the new. But the reason why there are twelve months is more interesting. If there were 13, they would come out to an even number of weeks per month. However, that is not divisible by any number at all, let alone all the convenient ways to divide 12. Basically, our ancestors found it far more important to be able to quarter the year than to be able to have weeks all come out even.
Weeks, as such, were mostly only important if you were taking one day off a week, like the Jews, or were setting aside one day or two as special for some other reason. In contrast, lots of things are important by quarters: the equinoxes and solstices divide the year up neatly.
P.S. No, there are not 12 lunar cycles a year. It is closer to 13, but does not come out even. That's why it's a complicated process to determine what the lunar phase will be on January 1 of any year.

Because a full revolution around the Sun doesn't work out to a number of full days (it's about 365 and 1/4 days), making a perfect calendar is impossible no matter how many months there are. Maybe if we all got on one side of the Rocky Mountain Range and gave it a good hard push....

It is due to the lunar cycles in a year but if you are familiar with calenders from other cultures, you would realise they all have different length of days for each month in each year.
The calender we typically use is called Gregorian calender, derived from the lunar one. To make it consistent every year and with astronomical phenomenons like equinoxes, fixes had been made to vary the length of each months and also the leap year.
A lot of history in it and a lot of great astronomers and scientists have contributed to it, it's not something someone thought of a number and make it how many months we have have in a year!
