just as "the-kid" said below Wal-Mart use to do alignments because like him I worked for Wal-Mart in their tire and lube express and did alignments for them. I went to college and have a degree in automotive technology and was trained to do alignments, install shocks and struts, and replace tie rod ends, etc....The reason Wal- Mart no longer offers this service is because, like others here have told you, they don't want to pay their employees enough to do a good job, and the employees they get now just don't care about what type of job they do for the customer. My store had a Rotary alignment machine (made in the USA by the way) which compared to today's machines was a little out dated. I was told by our district manager at the time that the reason we were going to stop doing them was because Wal-Mart did not want to have any liability risk from doing them (other stores in our district had left front end components loose). Hope this has helped answer your question. (I wish we still did them as well, I had fun doing them.)

Wal-Mart offers tires because they look at them as a commodity, like toilet paper or toasters. It is something they can get their tiny minds around.

Alignment is a SERVICE and what does Wally World know about service? Wheel alignments go hand in hand with proper service for anyone in the business of selling and maintaining tires, IMHO. But Wally World doesn't really care about maintaining your vehicle properly, they just want to sell stuff.

Alignment is not the same as balancing. Balancing is making sure the tire and wheel assembly rotates smoothly. Alignment is making sure the suspension components on the vehicle are all pointed the right way.

Alignment has nothing to do with the tires themselves. Poor alignment will damage the tires, of course, but alignment is a much larger mechanical procedure than simply putting a tire on a balancer. Wheels get aligned, not the tires. The stores probably don't have the equipment or trained mechanics to do a wheel alignment.

The best equipment to align automobiles is manufactured in America and Walmart Corporation probably can't find one that is manufactured in China.

Balancing is different from alignment that's why they only offer the one. It's just another way for the big boy to get your money.

It's because they don't want to get paid for skill, or labor to repair. they want to sell stuff.

BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO HIRE SOMEONE THAT ACTUALLY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND NO BALANCING IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR ANY CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE PERSONAL SERVICE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE.
