Doctorate and Phd in music is the same, a title and a Degree. I never heard of any body earned a doctorate degree and or title without having his/her dissertation passed...except if it was given as an honoris causa, in any certain accredited university. As long as it is a Phd in education, whatever discipline or major or specialty.
