I can see why English up above is a top contributor in 'singles and dating' ... good Lord. Can we say "over react"?? No one was beaten ... spanked or paddled yes ... and that is quite different.
Anyhow ... it was starting to come to an end where I lived when I was in elementary school. The principal was allowed to spank with a paddle, but I never got into trouble. In contrast to Mr. English's opinion I find it funny that when these things took place schools were a much better place to learn. Kids respected each other ... their teachers ... and their parents. Since that has gone away things have sharply deteriorated within society.
As a teacher today I can tell you that it is a MUCH different world then when I was young. Kids cussing out their teachers, talking on cell phones during class, having NO respect for authority whatsoever ... these present conditions do not equate to a future world capable of surviving and supporting one another. Instead disrespect is rampant ... hatred against others for their beliefs or race abounds ... harm to innocent people and children abounds ...
And Mr. English up above thinks this isn't abhorrent? I beg to differ. I guess I'll keep praying that when many of these self centered, spoiled kids grow up and can't get a job because of their attitude they'll be forced to join the military .. where they can still "spank" some respect into you. That seems to be one of the last hopes we have ... let's pray we're around long enough to see if it works.

Yes it was allowed. I was quiet so never got into any trouble; however, if the anyone in class misbehaved or made a lot of noise when teacher went away from class for a few moments, everyone would get punished. Slapped on the hand with a ruler.
Other students would be taken to the small store within the classroom and spanked with a sports shoe :o.

I got spanked alot.....I remember once....in 1st grade, me and this other kid liked the song ..How much is that Doggie in the Window, the teacher had left the room, so I decided I wanted to hear it so I put the record on and started playing it...The teacher came back and I was taken out in the hall and spanked....

I think it's hard to draw a definitive line. All I DO know is that the amount of delinquency in this country has skyrocketed. Self-esteem and the desire to excel seems to be less and less common. Little to no self-control. For thousands of years, human parents have been disciplining their children with corporal punishment. Then, all of a sudden, about 30-40 years ago, the idea that it somehow "damaged" children mentally caught on and - now here we are. Is our world - are our children - TRULY "better" since we've adopted this attitude? We'll probably let it play out. Hopefully history will once again be the great teacher...

I was spank on the palm by a ruler, if I don't know the lesson, I was pinched on the crotch in front of so many children by running and bumping my classmate ,the daughter of a big shot in town,in spite of that I got spanked by a bamboo stick at home.

I remember the strap being in my 7-8 school that was 30 years ago but I was never slapped/ spanked. The only one who did the abuse was the principal.

Nope!! I graduated 20 years ago from high school and they were not allowed to then either. Although I did have a teacher CRACK the yardstick on my desk because I fell asleep in 11th grade history class. Now that was a rude awakining

When I was in school, you got sent to the principal's office for discipline. The teachers were not allowed to spank you. And no, I never had it happen to me.

Sure the could. I got spanked for smoking, kissing, cheating on a test, and talking too much- I mean, I had about 20 warnings.
