Myles - There must be some semantics involved here . I just watched a spot about this subject and although they acknowledged that Reagan came close , they stated that officially it was George H. W. Bush who was the first !

Kennedy First Gave the Turkey a stay of execution and the next day the news paper reported it as a "Pardon"

But Reagan was the first to actually use the term "Pardon" in 1987
But the Tradition we perceive today as having gone on forever that sent the turkey to the farm to live out the rest of his days began with G.H.W. Bush

EDIT: Yes you are correct about semantics-Reagan said this during the Iran-Contra hearings-as a Joke but referenced Pardoning the Turkey for Thanksgiving, I guess his Vice President G.H.W. Bush took notice and decided to use it officially

The origins of the tradition of pardoning the White House turkey is controversial. Many credit President Harry Truman with starting the informal and lighthearted tradition in 1947. Surely you dont mean George H Bush

George H.W. Bush was the first.

Reagan was the first president to use the word 'pardon' but he was answering a question about Ollie North.

Trueman did and others beat me to it.

But How pardoned Turkey the country for the genocide of Christian Armenians 90 years ago and allow this to go on and will not allow any one who denies the Holocaust 70 years ago.

Is money so important to throw values away on this day of thanksgiving which is to God and turn our back on his word and his people.

No it is not and any one how defends this is as evil and has the blood of fellow Christians on his hands and soul.
