I need some help, I'm writing a short story and I was wondering if this is a good beginning. It's here:

It's only a first draft, so I didn't expect the beginning to be good the first time. Also this is not a spin off of some other book, I just wrote what came to my head.

I liked it enough to want to read the whole thing. Your description of the setting is evocative, and you keep the reader's interest, making him wonder what the It is. Those responders who didn't like it may simply not like that genre, and that's their business. As for a thesis, a work of fiction doesn't need one. If your objective is simply to draw the reader into a brooding, foreboding atmosphere and tell a shivery story, you're well on your way.

the beggining was so lame...what is it? LOL
try writing out charachter and his antagonist and their personas. create ultimate conflict (love, war, hope) and place your main character in the middle of everything. Make the antagonist start out as a friend of the protagonist, then make them hate each other over a girl.
The more conflict and spins you can do, the better writer you are!!!
Thats basically the recipe for a good story. Oh, and do not, i repeat, DO NOT, ever, use a spin from another book. Not unless a bunch of other writers used it too...

I think that the story is good. I am not the author. But I think that the ending should include the tradegy of a loved one. And maple's father is found to be alive. It was his cousin that looked identically that was killed by a hunter.

I think its alright although you do need a thesis and there are some spots that a slightly redundant, but all that can be cleard up in revision so all in all I'd say it was pretty good. <3

I liked it you should continue writing don't listen to the ppl who say it was lame and boring they probably couldn't write anything that good :)

no. you started out boring so i couldn't even finish it. the dialouge was off.
