I am a snowbird in Arizona. I cannot receive my DSL here as I can when I am at home in Illinois.

You will indeed need a free "Hot Spot"
The good news is that McDonalds is now hot for AT&T users if that is who supplies your DSL all you need is a McD nearby. (I think several of them provide that free even if you aren't an AT&T user.) Borders books, Starbucks, and many others also provide hot spots.

You might also check with your neighbors to see who has wifi and if you can use one of them?

Wifi has short range so you need to be within 200-300 feet more than likely but there may be some around you!! _
You can always open your wireless connection and view available networks to see what is around.. Then find out who owns the connection and see if they will let you use it. (Remember they will be within a 200-300 foot radius of you!)

Have FUN

Your DSL cannot be reached if you are away from home. You'll need to check internet connections and then the wireless connection on your PC. There should be a list if your PC is detecting any wifi signals. Then you just choose one you can use and you're on.

Go to a Starbucks or other location that is a "hotspot"
Log onto their network
Go to the home page of your DSL provider
Log in under your username and password
You should be able to access your account info and e-mail
