I like using it with my students. I use Unitedstreaming.com, which has a ton of video clips, which is great for my students for building background since my class is bilingual and lack a lot of words (and experiences, most times) in English. I also make PowerPoints of pictures to show the students, also to help build background. Right now we're in the middle of making a class movie about the Revolutionary War using MovieMaker. I also am looking forward to using Kidspiration, which allows you to make diagrams on the computer and link the pieces to websites, put notes on them, or lets the kids fill in their own pieces. It's a good alternative when I want them to see certain websites, but as third graders they have problems typing in addresses.
So, I think that it has lots of advantages. Students are extremely interested in technology and so incorporating it into a lesson is one way to get their interest. I don't think it's good if a teacher is forced to incorporate technology into a lesson, but doesn't really have an understanding of how to use it effectively.

Whatever helps in educating students in a better way, must be advantageous to everybody connected with education.
You can make use of computers, web technology, slide projector etc to elaborate on the subjects in a better way. Many times when I explain concepts ( though am not a teacher in a strictest sense ), I do make use of various tech-methods and my experience is, it helps the audiance.
You need to collate information from various web resources, create slides of the important points and load the same on either a PC system or create photo-slides to be inserted in projector.
I know this is a concise thematic response.

I agree with libby 121. Technology in the classroom is a great tool, but it must be used properly and by people who are comfortable with it. In my shool board, technology is more than computers. It is anything such as a TV, radio, projector or any other such device that you use with the class. The kids, not just the teacher, should be able to use it.
I teach English as a second language in high school. The TV is used to watch local English television programmes or movies. The radio is used to listen to CDs of music , recorded books or other recorded literature. The kids are encouraged to use both, plus all the necessary recording equipment , to turn their written work (which they have created) into a CD or a movie. Their recorded products are listened to or viewed by the class, and they then rate and critique which factors into the final mark. They have alot of fun with it - and they learn how to work together to produce a good writtten and recorded text.

Yes, I think it is very valuable. Technology is all over today's world and students need to know how to use it. so part of our job is to educate students about the types of technology available, their functions and purposes, and the skills necessary to use them effectively.
I use kidspiration a lot. I teach 2nd grade. This piece of software teaches my kids basic computer skills such as opening and saving files, utilizing menus within a program, switching between different types of programs, ways the computer can organize info in a quicker and more effective way than paper and pencil.
We also use SmartBoards and Document Cameras. I use these as way to present information to the students that can't otherwise be presented. They are also interactive, so the students attention can be sustained.

I'd love to use more tech in my classroom, but today it took me three hours to get to my desktop without being bounced.
Senteo (the multiple choice clicky things) and United Streaming are great resources along with SMART boards, but when some schools have all the tech they want in every classroom (projectors, class sets of Senteos and SMART boards along with working computers) and some schools are trying to make it work with overhead projectors and white boards, all within the same school board, frustration levels get high really quickly.
Sometimes teachers really want to use more tech in the classroom, but are limited by the school and school board as to what resources they can have. Yes, some teachers go out and buy their own projectors and laptops, but not all can afford them.
