I am doing the persuasive essay on "Is homework neccessary?" and I need opinions...?

Question

I am interested to see if it is really neccessary to have homework if you are in school doing work for most of the day anyway. Also, kids do have lives, such as sports, holidays, friends, etc and it doesn't seem fair that homework should take time away from those things.

I can relate because at least one night a week, I am up till one AM doing homework, even if I started as soon as I got home from school at 2:30.

Any opinions? Your opinions will go into my essay no matter what, but keep them clean if you know what I mean.

same here, i am up past midnight just doing homework (i'm in high school)
and it's terrible, because then kids wake up in the morning at the crack of dawn to go to school and have to work off of 6 or so hours of sleep and then do the whole things over again
i'm sleep deprived during the week
and really unhappy because i'm loaded with so much homework--i go to school 8.5 hours a day from 7:25 to 4:00--because i go to an alternative school for the arts as well as high school
it is time consuming but it is what im interested in--but its like im punished for working hard because then i have so much homework that i have to do right when i come home at 5:00--i eat dinner, take a shower, and do homework until after midnight
and yes, i'm trying to have a life
it's like i deserve a break, dont i?
i guess homework should be given, but only when Necessary
some teachers give homework just to give the kids another assignment
but i think if there was no busy work, only homework that you would finish from what you were doing in class, or like a worksheet that would help you practice what you learned that day, then kids would be a lot happier
students are trying to have a life outside of school! they have friends, family, obligations, they just want time to themselves sometimes! its hard to do that with homework-it's like having school 24 hrs a day

i believe that schoolwork you don't finish in class and have to bring home if it is due the next day is REAL homework. it's completely unfair and ridiculous when teachers just hand out homework at the end of the class and expect it done. it's school work, meant to be done IN school. that's my opinion and always has been.

is making good money some day as important as friends, sports , holidays and the family you did not mention who will always be there for your whole life not just a tiny piece of it ,,,,,as well as the 30 yr mortage and family of your own ,,,that you will say SORRY you have to do without,,, moma HAD to have fun in hs ya know !!!!
