The reason for the question is my dog was supposed to have been watched overnight per the vet, was not, and hung itself. Then expected to be paid for a service upon handing me my dead dog.

Yes there is, you can contact your state board or veterinarian medicine for more details and info, and also voice your concerns.

I'm sorry about your dog. The vet has a right to request payment for his services, although I think he was really stupid to after his staff negligently allowed the poor pup to come to such a terrible end.

In this US, animals are chattels (property). Tell him if he doesn't write off your ill, you are going to countersue for the value of the animal. You can't claim punitive or exemplary damages, but you get compensated for the actual value of the animal.

Also, tell him you're going call your local investigative new reporter. He's not going to want his veterinary clinic splashed on the news with you telling about how they handed you your dead dog that they were supposed to be caring for.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Namaste.

Yes. The Vet we used in NC was sued for MP because a Vet Teck gave an overdose to someones dog. A honest mistake but he did have to pay.

Yes, there is.

After all, people tend to become attached to their Fluffies and Rovers, and can be letigious when said animal dies while in a Vet's care.

The difference is, that depending on the jurisdiction, the most they can sue for is a piddly couple thousand dollars. Where I am, I think it tops-out at $5,000. In short, Small Claims Court.

I hope not that fad is what made medical care so high priced to begin with.

BTW sorry about the loss of your dog. But my point is that if you want health care for pets to skyrocket then go ahead and sue. All you will be doing is insuring that before long nobody will be able to afford to take their pet to a vet.
