Andrew Jackson was a bad man on many levels, and his allowing the removal of the Cherokees was certainly amongst the most heinous of presidential acts, but the evilness of his legacy extended far beyond that particular act of inhumanity.
What is often forgotten is that the Supreme Court actually ruled against Jackson and the State of Georgia in Worcester vs. Georgia. In the ruling, it was decided that the Georgia laws were unconstitutional and that the federal government must intercede on behalf of the Cherokee. Jackson refused to obey the court’s mandate, and in doing so, took the teeth out the enforcement of Supreme Court rulings for a century to come. A Court that might have been emboldened to actually uphold the words of the constitution was left a shallow body capable only of following the venal authority of congress and the executive.
As for his place on the Twenty, let him stay so that we can remember the legacy of his cruelty and cowardice.

I am not offended by Andrew Jacksons picture on the $20.00 bill. This revisionist attitude towards American history has gone to far.
It could be argued that Abraham Lincoln was responsible for 500,000 American deaths by insisting on keeping the Union together with violence.
It could be argued that Harry S. Truman had two Japanese cities completely exterminated, to end WW2.
But I do not see any negative press against these two presidents. History is history, learn from past mistakes and move on. Peace

Take a good look at all the guys on all the bills and you will find that all of them killed off a bunch of people, why pick out Jackson? Oh ya, you want attention to the native Americans who killed a bunch of white folks, but ignore the French, the British, the Negroes, the Spanish, and the Mexicans who were also involved in killing back and forth. Who is your nominee for the $20?

Andrew Jackson was a great President and leader and helped make this country the greatest in the world. He should be remembered in any way possible. Who cares if he owned slaves, as some posters do, it was perfectly legal back then , you were never a slave so what do you care.
Without him and others like him this country wouldn't be half as great.
Slavery is a part of history, removing these people from our currency won't erase history, now learn history and move on but for God's sake please quit dwelling on something you had no "f" ing part of.

If you're going to start removing dead presidents from currency, then all of them should be taken off, because they all contributed in some negative way to screwing this country up. You can definitely start with George Washington, who preached about democracy but owned slaves. I support you. Good luck.

We can also remove Washington from the one since he was a general in the revolutionary war. Maybe Lincoln from the five. For the same reasons...he was president and Commander-in-Chief. See how silly your remark is?

Who cares? When I look at a $20 dollar bill I just think of the fact that it is 20 bucks in my pocket, not who's face is stamped on it.

I have a question. Why remove or change something that is minual? ther are a lot more important things in this world that need attention than whose pic is on money.
And What has he or Grant done that was so bad? They are some of the icons that this FREE America was grounded on. (just my opinion).please do not take offense.

As an Eastern Cherokee, you better believe I think they need to get that man's face off there. He was NOT great by any means.
Hey, Mark, if you were in my shoes, I think you'd know better than what you just said.
