consider the hypothetical story:

if i had a friend who's cousin's dad went on a date with a girl in the yonkers area of new york in the summer of 1962. if apparently they got drunk and if he strangled her while they were having rough sex in his car. and if he drove her body upstate and covered it in a wooded area with leaves and a sheet of particle wood.

if he told me this while we were playing a game of pool in 2006 and he was drinking, but i thought it is credible, because...i will not go into specifics but i thought i had reason to believe that i may have located her remains. should i call police, and could he get charged in that situation?

Yes, Please tell the local law enforcement authorities. Go to their office and ask to speak with someone in the investigation or detective division. Give them the information as you know it and show them what you can to help them. The victim had a family. They need your help also.

Yes, and stay away form this person of interest at all costs. This is how many killers are caught, they get drunk and shoot of their mouths. I would tell the police the truth and that at the time you were to afraid to say anything, in case it was a drunk in lie he was telling you or for fear for your life. You must tell the police because if it is true you could be next on his list.

There is no statute of limitations on murder. Review the matter with the District Attorney's office. They will find out if there is an unsolved murder case.

I strongly advise you to consult a criminal defense lawyer for a serious review of your question. If you verified the drunken spouting off to the point of locating the body, fail to report it, you may be committing some crime. Take your lawyer with you if he advises you to go the police, to avoid trouble for yourself.
