Well AD-HOC will work just fine. You will need to enable ICS (internet connection sharing) on your laptop if you want to use the internet and use ethernet on the laptop to get internet. You have to have TWO network connectors to use ICS one for the internet and one for the share. But Ad-Hoc wireless will work between your laptop and the IPaq
I am doing that here so I know it works.
Here is Microsofts information to get it working.

Step by step - couldn't get any easier.

Good Luck and God Bless.

You could use the modem, if you plug it in manually. Not sure if you'd be able to find a cable(cat5) that could do it. The wireless router is your best bet if the HP is wifi ready. It beats plugging in/out to get connection, and it'll only cost about $80 for a decent one....

You have to get a WiFi router. I prefer the Linksys routers. But that doesn't mean they are the best.

When you find a router that fits your budget, it will come with software/instructions specific to the hardware. This setup will make it possible for you to get online with your PC and WiFi enabled smart phone.
