happiness.
happiness affects everything we are doing here.
when we love, we love cause we want to be happy. when we want to have money, we want that to be happy. when we want to be famous, we want that to be happy.

Why does there have to be a purpose? Some people say procreation - in that case do infertile people have no purpose? Others say happiness, the funny thing about happiness is the more you chase it the more it escapes you. Others say we make our own purpose, but I have found that life has a way of knocking you over and changing all your plans! The more rigid you are to one single purpose the less open you will be to change and many great unexpected things can pass you by. To try and pin point one single purpose of life that holds true to all of mankind is impossible, we are all different, different races, creeds and opinions. I say just let it be and enjoy the ride!

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
The word "purpose" requires a plan or design. By itself, nature does not have a plan so evolution, by itself, has no plan/purpose for your life.
People like to invent pretend-purposes; inventing the reasons they came into existence. Here are some examples from the answerers:
"happiness"
"To positively affect the lives of people around you"
"live life to its fullest"
"be happy and spread happiness"
"To grow and experience"
"To Live, To BE"
These are pretend purposes that were selected in order to make the answerer feel good. They are not purposes, they are feel-goodisms.

dear smily
the purpose of the life is an integration of you. at present you are segregated. you mind and body do not concur at one point in space and time. your body is now and here while your mind is never "now and here". it flows out of you everywhere away from "now and here". it divides you at the core.
you think you are enjoying the life but in fact you do not. your body is there with your partner but your mind is there in the office or in the class. this divide prevents you from living an experience in its entirity.
the purpose of the life is to live in entirity. this has to be learnt.
my article on at my website lightinlife.com will tell you how to get this.

It's really more of a perspective thing, I guess. My philosophy on life is to live life to its fullest, and positively affect those around you.

To grow and experience the good and the bad.
To know the difference and to make a difference.
To walk free.
To think free.
