excellent question. There are Harbinger Demons often confused by the incompitent as "shadow people" who are high level Demons that secure footholds in the Terra Realm for there masters the Dark Wills. These footholds include spiritual weapons caches to the "HellGates" themselves. There are even Biblical refrences to the "HellGates" themselves, when Apolyon the DArkWill of the Swarm is released by an angel from his Terra Seal. Also The Red Horseman that has Hell behind him unleashes the "HellGate" that holds the Dark Will of Destruction. The Terra "HellGates" are one of two Seals that hold dimensional rifts together between Hell and Earth. The "HellGates" must be unlocked on both realms to be "open". What usually happens is that the Spiritual Gate is open the the Terra "HellGate" is the one that remains closed and the ones that the Harbinger Demons defend maliciously.

You kind of have your myths mixed up.
Hell, in its current understanding, is particular to Judeo-Christian mythology/religion, which is akin to asking if Jesus is Zeus' son. Apples and oranges.
Now, if we are talking strictly pre-Christian mythology, then there are many myths that have waystations between this world and the afterlife. In Greek mythology, the River Styx actually acted as a barrier between this world and the next, and passage was only allowed at the behest of the ferryman (named Charon, if memory serves me correct.)
Many myths and religions have their own version of the afterlife, which might have some correlation to what others might consider 'heaven and/or 'hell', so it depends on what sort of 'hell' you were looking for. Due to the fact of a wide-ranging belief in a place where some spirits are placed seperate from others (as a form of punishment or whatnot) suggests that 'hell' is not entirely a Judeo-Christian concept.
A more important question would be why would one want to know if such a gateway has been found? Its not like 'hell', if it does exist, has only one door. Think of a walled city: many points of entry, none more or less significant than the other.

Yep, it's a lake, but more like a tar pit. Not sure where it is, but the Romans believed in it big time. It is, of course, volcanic, which accounts for the bubbling and the sulphur smell.

Yeah, it is in Iraq. I found it for the second time in 3 years. I hear it can only be closed by a neuclear explosion. If someone could help with that it would be nice.

Yeah, I think its supposed to be in some lake in Europe. I think its in Greek or roman mythology that says it but I'm not sure. It has been discovered because of its volcanic activity, but it really doesnt go to hell.
