Hi, im currently 37+3 weeks pregnant and i have had low amniotic fluid for the last few weeks. It was 4.7 but is now hovering around 5-5.5 (normal is 5-25). They keep asking me if i have been leaking fluid but i havent noticed anything, until today. When i woke up this morning, i felt very damp (sorry for TMI). I didnt have a gush or anything but i had obviusly been a bit "leaky" during the night. I have been wearing liners for most of my pregnancy due to the normal extra discharge you get but they seem to be quite wet now by the end of the day. I dont know if baby has just been pushing hard on my bladder or if maybe i am leaking fluid. Im at the hospital tommorow for a CTG on baby but i just wondered if any of you had a similar experience and did it turn out to be fluid or urine?

Yes! I did. My daughter was due Feb.14th and on Christmas Eve I began to leak. It was not urine, and it did not gush. It was clear and odorless. I was frightened and called the doctor, who saw me that day. The OB said there was a tear in the amniotic sac and I had to take precautions to prevent infection.....no baths - only showers, no swimming, no marital relations, no douching, change mini pads every few hours and I was to check my temperature each day to see if I was infection-free. I did this for 6 weeks, leaking everyday. After I emptied my bladder, I would leak a little. The doctor told me that my body was replacing the small amount of fluid I was losing.
On Feb. 2, I had a fever, which meant infection, so a C-Section was scheduled for the next day. On Feb. 3 we were blessed with a healthy 7 pound baby girl. That was 26 years ago, and that same little baby girl is now expecting her own first baby.

So take heart, my dear. Take the precautions I mentioned, and listen to your doctor. I wish you all the best.

An increase in discharge is common during pregnancy. Lie down for a half hour or so with a clean pad on. When you get up note the amount of flluid on the pad. Amniotic fluid has a very distinct smell, like bleach or Comet. If there is less than a teaspoon full or two and there is no smell you're most likely just having a normal discharge. Tomorrow call the doctor and ask if they have test strips for checking fluid leakage.

Hiya,

i thought i was leaking amniotic fluid with my first but i never really knew for sure. It is possible that u could be due to the drop in the fluid levels. there again as the baby grows you lose fluid to make more room for the baby. I am sure you'll be fine. take care and all the best with your baby.

Hi
My freind is 34 weks pregnant and she is constantly leaking , her midwife said it was where her baby is lying and because she is nearly due her weight is pushing the liquid out. If you have any concerns consult your midwife, they are always there to help.
Congrats any way

This happened to my sister, so yes it is possible.
You should ring the hospital and speak to a Midwife, they may well want to check you over.

Good Luck!
