My friend has a disability and finds it hard to find places she can go on family days out where she knows her needs will be met (disabled toilets, parking etc). I know of a great website which can help people to find out more about attractions which are accessible, I'd be interested to know if this site would be of benefit to others... Please take a look, it's www.getaboutmobility.co.uk

There still needs to be much done in the way of allowing us into buildings bathrooms many times there are no ramps, it just go's on and on! Things are starting to get better though. I have a powerchair and I still run into troubles.

In the UK we have the disability discrimination act.
Everywhere with public access has to have disabled toilets and facilities .

Ask your local council about the key that fits all toilets for the disabled throughout UK.
Your local passenger transport section of the council will also give you information about a bus pass for concessionary fairs. It is valid everywhere in UK From Jan 2008.

Yes I do as I am permanently physically disabled with some mobility problems. So I don't go out much or have many friends.I am still single at 58 with little hope of having a wife or family so I have joined Ascotworld matchmakers.
There are many like me.Able bodied people have no idea and don't know how lucky they are.

Yes could be very useful My wife, who regretfully has now passed away, was disabled, and needed a wheelchair,, I was reasonably fit,, and could drive her all sorts of places, and push the chair, but equally lots of places were rather difficult... The sort of website you mention would have been a great help in planning and organising days out.. Unfortunately at the time we did not have a computer.

i was temporarily disabled after a wreck and know the hassle of trying to find a place where your needs are met. I feel for those who deal with it daily.

It amazed me that in this day and time there weren't more areas. Or, that areas (like a bathroom) that were labeled handicap access really weren't.

I wonder if a site exists like that in the US?

Oh great, thank you for the link!

My sister is disabled and just day to day stuff can be a hassle - let alone going out for a day trip, in fact the last time I went for a day trip with her was before she became disabled.

sorry I tried to go to the link, but I couldn't get it
I am also in the dame situation and I to need to know where all the facilities are for those moments that arise.
In the US we have a law called ADA. the Americans with Disabilities Act which requires all business to have certain accommodation for people with disabilities, parting stalls, ramps and bathrooms, self opening doors and all that good stuff. any ways take care and I hope your friend is in good health.
....cya....

this is always a problem with wheel chairs but things are getting better. there is sometimes a minor problem when some places assume every disabled person is in a wheel chair and don#t always cater for the walking disabled with limited walking range
