"Failed" presumably means that the solute didn't come out of solution.

Try scratching to get it started. If that doesn't work, try leaving it in the refrigerator (care! if you're using a flammable solvent, you need a special spark-free refrigerator for this). If all else fails, you may have to remove excess solvent.
