I have a 5 day old and last night and today she wont stop crying. I've tried the swaddling, rocking, put her in her swing, feeding her (all she does is spit it up), changing her. I feel like there's not going to be a end to it. She just wont stop

Most likely it is something common like acid reflux or colic. But with a 5 day old, you're better off calling the nurses at the hospital or birthing center where you gave birth. They may want you to see your pediatrician to find out what the problem is.

Do you have someone to help you? You could probably do with a break, and your baby is proabably picking up on your anxiety, and making the situation worse. If your partner or someone you can trust would look after her while you recharge your batteries you can take over again refreshed and possibly feel more capable of helping your little one. Are you breastfeeding or bottle feeding? If it is formula, it may be giving her a belly ache which could be why all the spitting up, and you could talk to your health nurse about changing to a different formula. A warm bath sometimes helps to calm little ones too, and trying different positions to hold or cradle your baby, she may like one better than another.
You also need to have her checked over by the doctor at about 9 - 10 days old, so perhaps you could just take her a couple of days earlier for her check, and make sure there is no medical reason for the crying..... There is no handbook for babies and they are all different, it will take time for you to get to know all the little things your baby likes and dislikes, be patient, and know that you are doing just fine, but it is just as important for you to look after yourself as it is for you to look after your baby.... Congratulations on your little bundle.

If she's throwing everything up, take her to the doctor NOW. She could get dehydrated.

If she's still peeing, then take her to the doctor anyway, or baby clinic, whatever you have available. She's obviously uncomfortable and he will be able to advise you.

(big hug). There will be an end to it. It's so hard being a new mum! Just remember that if you're exhausted and struggling to keep your temper, put baby down in the cot and walk away for a bit, and call someone to come over and be with you. It really gets to you and it's completely normal to feel desperate. Just get another adult involved.

I agree. Phone your doctor. My daugther was quite fussy her first night home. She was awake, sneezing and just seemed a bit off than what she was in the hospital. I figured she was just adjusting to the new environment, but just to be safe, we took her to the pediatrician. Of course, she was fine, but being the mom, I wanted to err on the side of caution. (Personally, for me, I put off taking ibuprofin if I can, let alone seeing a doctor. Yet, for my child, things are different.)

During the first month or so of my daughter's life, we had all day and/or all night crying periods. As stressful as it was, I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Now, if only we could get her to settle down at night...

Sounds like reflux and colic ( very sore and uncomfortabe)..mine had it.....firstly you need to see a pediatrician as you cant take any chances...if it is colic there are products that ease it and burping her/him helps....but the colic continues until at least 6 weeks and it is extremely nerve wreaking.....the peak times for colic attacks seems to be between 5 and nine in the evenings....ask your clinic sister or doctor to show you diffrent ways of burping to remove the winds...or ask a friend who has been through it...good luck

See your doctor....there could be many causes. She might not be getting enough to eat if you are breast feeding, she might have a pocket of gas in her belly she can't get up, she might be sensitive to the formula you are using if you are bottle feeding. If you are breast feeding & drinking carbonated drinks stop as they cause gas, as does any cabbage type foods you might be eating. Are you drinking enough water (you will produce more breast milk)? I knew a woman who was eating candied ginger (for health reasons) & her poor baby wasn't tolerating it. As soon as she stopped he was fine. If you are drinking alot of milk and it turns out that your baby is lactose intolerant then that can cause problems through the breast milk.

You need some help so go see someone....she shouldn't be crying so much. Have the doctor check her over.

Its probably acid reflux. This happened to me too. Our daughter is now on soy formula and she's a much happier baby. Best of luck. I know how tough it can be to have a screaming baby.

awww. i feel for both of you. depends on the kind of crying. is it literally non-stop screaming with tears for hours and hours? if so take her to the doc asap. is her spitting up projectile vomiting? (it would fly across the room). if so, again, take her to the doc asap. otherwise, babies cry. i know its not much help...but your little love is just talking to you. sounds like she may just need lots of burping. keep trying to to burp her every couple of minutes after a feeding. you could even stop the feeding midway....get a good burp out of her and keep trying and try different positions. as long as she's having wet diapers, you know she holding in something.

if you are really scared for her well being.take her in to the doc just to ease your mind anyway. docs are so used to scared mums coming in "just in case".

congrats.....and good luck. it doesn't last long, a year from now you will barely remember this stage.

I agree that it may be colic or reflux. If she is spitting it all back up. It is really painful for little bubs. Would a warm bath sooth her? When you do get her laying down, prop up the top of her mattress a little bit, it helps keep the acids down.
