They are stacking the odds against themselves and their children

I think it depends on the teenager and their surroundings. Some teenagers, believe it or not can somewhat handle the pressure of being a teenage mom with the help and support of their family.

I was a teenage mother at the age of 19 and was married to my husband at age 18. It was hard because it was not what neither of parents wanted for us. We actually got married and then went right into a pregnancy.

We are still married and have 2 children now and are doing fine. My husband has a lot to do with it. He supported me and stood by me, we actually stood by each other.

My husband is only 3 years my senior just in case you are wondering. I know I could not have made it without my faith in God and a good husband becaus emy parents were not happy with the whole idea but now I am the only sibling that is working on a law degree and is actually married (happily).

Hope this answers your question. God Bless

Married or not, teenage parents are a bad a idea in today's Western world. Teenagers are still growing and learning and most of them are not mature enough to put the needs of someone else before themselves - an absolute requirement for good parenting.

In another place and time, in societies where teenage girls were married to men in thier 30's or older, and where there was a complex social network surrounding the young woman, it worked out fine. But in today's world, not so much.

Most teenagers are simply not mentally mature enough to be able to raise a child. There are exceptions to the rules, of course, but in general teenage parents don't have the dedication, maturity, and resources necessary to raise a child. Regardless of whether they're married or not.

Okay, well then I'LL be the one to provide the politically incorrect, but honest, answer.

Babies raising babies. Thats all it is. While their bodies are ready to have babies, their minds are not. I have yet to meet a teenaged girl who is selfless enough and mature enough to place a child's needs before her own. Sure, there are some that may be coping really well, but I believe a baby requires far more than 'coping'. Particularly in our society, where kids are given everything they want and display such disregard and disrespect for others, I can't see how they will be good parents, in the short or long term. I'm hoping these kids have good parents themselves, ones who are willing to help. But mind you, that just falls in line with parents giving their kids everything they want, now doesn't it?

I am not sure as there are all kinds of different teenage parents.
But the one girl that gets pregnant just because then she can get a free flat from the government is a leech.
If two people have a child and are married then good luck on them.

I think it's better than having women in their 40s and 50s undergoing expensive fertility treatments, only to have them fail again and again. To me, it's more unnatural to have children that age than as a teenager. I don't personally condone teenage pregnancy but I also don't believe it's the end of the world either. Having a child at a young age isn't necessarily going to condemn someone to a life of welfare, poverty, and menial jobs nor is it going to cause them to drop out of school either.

I think they would have a difficult time adjusting, at least at first. Ideally, parents would be mentally and emotionally fit, financially independent, self aware and very interested in their child's welfare in every sense of the word. Age doesn't make a blind bit of difference if one doesn't possess the qualites listed above. And lets be bold here - even some adults at 40 have absolutely no clue and are in no way fit to be parents. Yet, they are.

I abhor the idea, even if they're married. I really don't understand why anyone would want to have children before the age of 30.

A small percentage of them do a good job and use the experience as a life lesson that they pass on to their children: hard work, determination, getting an education. Kudos to those few. Most of them become leeches on the system and pass on dependence and a lack of education onto future generations.

Teenagers shouldn't be parents and they shouldn't be married.
