After 3 days of deliberation, we considered ourselves hopeless. Reported this to the court, and judge sent us back to continue deliberating. Will this ever end? Just how long can a judge make you "try" to reach a verdict? It's not like we haven't given it our all as it is. I went from feeling proud to serve to feeling like a hostage! Anyone out there had similar situations? How did you deal?

I haven't, and I don't know the exact answer as to how many times he can send you back, however, my suggestion would be to go over everything again, try to sound people out on their disagreements, and also look at exactly what the applicable law says. If you've done all that and you still can't reach a verdict, could the foreperson state in court, "We have done X, Y, and Z, but we are still unable to reach a consensus. We do not believe that further deliberations will help us to agree."?
I'd feel like a hostage too, unless I thought that maybe we hadn't done everything we could before giving up. Good luck to you!

Jury members must consider what is best for the outcome of the case in order that the issues will be properly resolved without sacrificing justice.
