The Co-op does these in the fridged section Scottish smoked kippers some peppered or plain, rarely a bone, no bones about it, but always beware! Regulary I get these they are vaccum prepacked the best I've found likes these (licks lips). And last kept in the chiller.

If I really wanted to eat kippers which I don't., I would find the closet fish market. If you aren't lucky enough to have one close by, the next thing I would do, is talk to your favourite chef in town, the best Inn or Hotel will probably have a chef to give all the info you need. Except his recipe of course.

Depends where you live in UK. In London farmers' markets seem to sell lovely thick and juicy ones, sometimes un-dyed, but very expensive. The other week a door to door fish salesman came with a big vanload of fish from "up North" somewhere, and promised to return every fortnight. His kippers were out of this world, but you need to raise a mortgage to pay for them. So the answer is to buy from someone who sources from proper fish markets, not from supermarkets who sell to the mass market

Is the Billingsgate (wholesale) fish market still in business in London - they used to sell the world's best kippers!

Not where I am, that's for sure.
I had a kipper breakfast once in England.
I think I am a very brave person.

Well call me dumb or whatever but I have never eaten a kipper. If its like a sardine then I would love them. Being from the south in the states we dont have those. We have catfish here...like those grilled.
