Okay, I've read all around that it's possible but it's totally not for a beginner. The thing is that yeah, maybe I do need a converter box but I'm not looking foward to use the backlight. I just want to get the display to show. Apparently my laptop lcd has 1 ground wire split into 3 and the port that was connected to the motherboard.

I'm thinking of just taking a guess with what wire goes to what on a cut off VGA cord. I mean, what do I got to lose? The lcd is nice and it last worked when the laptop last worked lol and if I can't use it, might as well experiment with it.

So is this possible? No backlight, just the lcd screen?

Let me know. And would this damage my computer? haha

Won't work.

VGA puts out an analog signal while the LCD will expect a digital signal (desktop LCD monitors with VGA input have ADCs but laptops just keep things digital all the way).

A DVI cable might be able to do it but even so you'd need to find out the pinout for the LCD and it may use LVDS while DVI uses TMDS in which case you'll need a converter.

I doubt you'd be able to buy a suitable converter box off the shelf, you'd have to make it and unless you're an EE I doubt you'll be able to do it.

Odds are there's no VGA to the screen, it's probably all digital, like on a HDTV. It would make no sense from a manufacturing point of view to convert to analog> VGA and then back to digital for the in computer screen. ie, odds are > no chance.
