If God really is omnipotent than I suppose it could be possible, but it also seems impossible. An example is if God created a stone that is so heavy that God himself could not lift it.
Just wondering, We are talking about stuff like this in philosphy right now.

Ok, I'm not saying God exists (I am an Atheist in fact), but that's not the point, many people believe in God and going by the Bible he is omnipotent (meaning all powerful), so based on that what do you think?

If we take Anselm's definition of God (being which no greater being can be conceived) than the answer would have to be "no".

I think your question boils down to "what does it mean for a being to be all-powerful?" Power is often thought to be a capacity to do things so a being who is all-powerful would seemingly be able to do anything (such as doing the impossible.)

There is a bit of a problem with dealing with capacities, however, which is where contradictions can creep in. You might say "I have the capacity to go to work tomorrow" and you might also say "I have the capacity to call in sick tomorrow and stay home". Both of these seem to be real capacities, things you could very well do but it would be quite difficult (if not impossible) to do both things. Your capacity to do those things are somewhat contingent on not realizing other capacities (e.g. realizing "going to work" prevents you from "staying home").

We could, perhaps, alter the definition of power that I've suggested above to avoid these sorts of contradictions and that might make "all-powerful" a bit more coherent. We could, for example, say something like "power is the realization of one's will". In this case you might will to go to work and in doing so you are realizing that will which is an instance of power you possess. Then "God" might be considered "all-powerful" so long as everything that occurs is in accordance with his will.

I think that if you analyze questions like this, you can see that the question itself contains a contradiction which renders the question meaningless. Can God make a box with a top but no bottom, for example. Part of the definition of a box requires that there be a top and a bottom. Such questions are nonsensical, just words strung together.

A very frequent question is why doesn't God, if He is omnipotent, prevent evil. The answer is God wants us to have free will. The definition of free will requires that we be able to do evil.

Omnipotence means God can do anything that is a thing.

In my opinion, no, God could not create someone or something more powerful than himself. If God is omipotent then he is all powerful so when you reach the top of the scale there's no where left to go. The only analogy I can think of is this: It's like a glass of water which is full to the top. If one more drop is added it will spill out. It's as full as it can be. So in my view, God's power is like the glass of water. It can't be any more full or in this case, any more powerful.

this would nicely be a favourite question Atheists like to ask! even with the undeniable fact that it has too ordinary answer in Islam! first of all ur question has 2 contradictory areas, putting them jointly will nullify the question. like whilst we are saying:- can u hear the silence? can u see this tree on an identical time as u r remaining ur eyes?,,, etc Now, returned 2 ur Q; "can God create" ,,, confident he can create something. "a god greater desirable than himself?",, God can't be created! merely, because of the fact our Islamic definition of God is the UNCREATED eternal God, as quickly as something is created, it has a beginning component, so that is no longer a God by way of definition. Can God has a spouse and youngsters? Being a God skill that no person is like u! so No goddess, and no toddler gods,,, Can God die? Being God, it skill that u r eternal, and this contradicts death, so God would not die. In Islam we use "would not", as a substitute of "can no longer" as a descent way whilst we communicate on God Almighty, God would not lie, God would not marry, God would not have babies, God would not sleep, God would not forget approximately, God would not would desire to overview, God would not choose funds, yet this would not mean that he's no longer God as he won't be ready to die or have somewhat one god???!! in opposite, it skill that he's the only GOD, the all-helpful, all-understanding,,, what's going to you call him if he can die?? what's going to you call a ""CREATED GOD"" who has a start up, that 2day he's god and the day till now on the instant he grew to become into no longer there!!?? u see, the coolest judgment can merely found out the "paradox" in the back of those atheist's way of thinking,,

There is God. And yes, he is omnipotent. Among all His creatures none is equal to Him and none is greater than Him.

Your discussion in philosophy shouldn't allow you make God an mortal. He lives and there isn't record that says He couldn't lift a stone.

Stop wondering. Your doubt shows that He can move all things even beyond your imaginations.

I asked the question of my own mind one time, the way I ask was, if God is everything that ever was and everything that will ever be, how could that power be more.
The answer that came to my mind was, God would split into bit of himself, and make those parts to grow back to his likeness. In this way he would multiply by the number created. One soul splitting into many souls growing back to the one.

My answer is YES. Our human mind is free to imagine that he could not be a great god if he/she/it cannot create something greater than himself/herself/itself.
