You have to see that twilight zone where this mobster dies and thinks hes gone to heaven cause hes winning at the slots, has lovely women etc....Until after never losing over and over...he realizes that he is really in hell.

Yes, pleasure and pain are polarities like night and day, stop and go, life and death....they feed off of each other.

You can have pleasure without pain, but it is with a different perspective and understanding of it. Some people experience far more difficulties in life that others, so maybe they appreciate pleasure more, or covet it more. Pain makes you a deeper, more well rounded person if it doesn't twist you up too much. But too little pain makes someone shallow and selfish. So there is a spectrum of pleasure vs pain. Somewhere in the middle is best, with the extremes being harmful in their own way.

yeah, i agree

sure, you can feel pleasure without pain but pain teases out the next level that is inside of you. pain gives you a better understanding and apprecation of pleasure so that when you do feel pleasure it is a lot better.

you can live in the hood drinkin 40's and bangin ho's or you can suffer a little, aspire to be something, and then have a greater appreciation for everything once you get there. some people get this... most people dont. take a look around the world and youll see all the people that dont get it.

No, some of the best things in life, and that definitely includes sheer joy and simple pleasures, come free with no strings attached, no pain either.
However, having said that, what value does man give those pleasures?
Do you say " Thank you Lord, that sunset was sooo breath taking and I was here to witness it" or being engulfed in an aurora borealis that you would remember for the rest of your life.

Yes. One cannot tell what is sweetness if one doesn't know the taste of bitterness. That goes vice-versa. There hardly is anything in this world that we get without first going through hardships and pains. But after all the sacrifices and maybe strife, we realize that it is all worth it. Not only that. We also come to realize the true meaning and feeling of pleasure --- of happiness. I hope I answered your question. (",)
