Actors are good speakers and they know how to play to an audience which makes them appear to be good politicians even if they are only reading the words others have written for them. However, if someone has been an actor AND has had had other political experience, then they might be a good and competent public official.
So I am leery when someone seems to jump from an acting career to high government office such as governor. It may appear that Reagan and Arnold S. did this, but if you look closer at their records, you will see that they had been involved in political activities for a while before they ran for office.
On the other hand, an actor or other show-biz person may make a good legislative representative even if they have had little prior political experience. Legislatures debate and kick around issues, so seeing things from a different side is important. Actors can really add something to the mix because have had different experiences than the majority of state or US legislators who have had government or business careers all their lives.
To sum it up, I would not ban them at all from entering politics. Actors who speak up on public policy issues may seem boring, uninformed, and poorly educated, and many times they are. But these types are often just promoting a favorite cause of theirs or if they are just thinking of running for something, trying out for the role of politician. These types of politicized actors usually get weeded out and are not elected. Ths is one instance where democracy works!

There is possibility for a character in the showbiz, to be a good politician. But as a candidate campaigning. they have an advantage of their fame, that is unfair to the rest of the candidates. And legally they have the right to run for a position, and it's up to voters to make an informed choice.
My Regards.

Why in the world should a celebrity be banned from politics. If they are a citizen and educated, why would their celebrity status make them less qualified to be a good politician than some anonymous lawyer or other person.

No to be voted into office should be open to all no matter what you have done or said but money should not be the deciding factor into the equation a country should be run by people who listen to what their voters want not to do as they wish without consulting the very people who voted them in Dave (England)
P.C Political correctness is a new war using peoples rights as weapons to undermine governments remember the old saying whilst in Rome do as the Romans do

In my children (i'm no longer that previous yet) i wanted to be a established practitioner. yet my parents informed me to benefit regulation because i changed into very shy. They idea that i could triumph over my shyness by being argumentative, as attorneys are experienced to do. No. i did not change right into a established practitioner, nor a criminal professional. I grew to change into an engineer instead, a very favourite occupation for "nerdy" and reserved human beings.

If the actor is reasonable...otherwise he is just a buffoon with a lot of money.
I wouldn't banned him...idiots need freedom too.
I agree with Shebee for the most part.
