Whichever is cheapest for the performance and capacity you want.
Don't bother with 10 000 rpm drives though, they're very expensive for the capacity and require specialised cooling, 7 200 rpm drives are what you will be wanting.
Each brand seems to be about as reliable as each other (you'll find people who have bad things to say about every brand out there but when the numbers are actually run it turns out that they're all just as good (or bad) as each other) and they all have about the same performance (though if you're computer has enough RAM hard drive performance won't be an issue with gaming) so buying on price is the best way to do things.
Oh and there's also the obvious one about getting a hard drive with an interface that you can hook up to your computer but if you're looking for a gaming or high performance PC then you'll be wanting SATA (not SCSI, that is going to be very expensive and won't provide enough of a benefit over SATA to be worth the extra cost for a home user).

The hard disk has very little impact on gaming beyond how long it takes to load a level. Even then the largest difference will only be a few seconds. As far as brands go, it's entirely up to taste. I prefer Seagate because their drives come with 5 year warranties while most others only come with 3 or even 1. Usually this wouldn't be so important, but consumer hard drives have a high failure rate.

Well, recently Western Digital has been well known for there good quality Hard Drives and for its prices.
If you want to choose between Samsung and Hitache I'd recommend Samsung. Hitache is known for fast Hard Drives, but they don't last. Samsung overall has the best quality and rarely has ever any problems. For Gaming look for a 10K Hard Drive. Even a SCSI If you can afford it.
If you even want faster results look for a Western Digital 15K. That'll blow your mind on performance.

A Seagate 7200rpm hard disk with sufficient space for storing your data (minimum of 80GB recommended) will be good enough. Samsung hard disks are pretty good too, but you should always look for one with a 7200rpm frequency rate.

Any standard 7200rpm drive will do, the larger the size/capacity the less reliable they tend to be. If you want speed and reliability regardless of price go with a "Raptor" drive. Otherwise just make sure you go with one of the larger names, like Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Samsung,...
