generally if anything makes it past three it goes from being called a trilogy to a series. Series or collection. For example all the die hard movies or lethal weapon movies together are referred to as series or collection.

Actually all the movies are "The Original", "A Sequal" or "A Prequal".
By the forth there tends to be a Prequal,.. these are events that happened before the "Original",.. the next movie ( 5th) could be a Sequal instead of a Prequal.
A Trilogy is the claim that there are only 3 movies in a Series. The third movie it's self is a Sequal,.. not a Trilogy. The three movies combined as a group are called a Trilogy,.. this sayd there is a total of 3 movies in the series.
Once it passes up being a Trilogy it can be a Sequal, Prequal, Paralellel or Parody.
Paralellel are an Alternate Universe a similar story or events that were happening else where at the time. Normally it's an Alternate Universe and not given a lable do to lack of words possessed by the layman.
Parody are when it's makeing fun of the original but not to be taken seriously.
The X-Men Movies are a Paralellel Universe to the comics. On and off the theory is the Spider-Man movies are in an another Universe diferent enough to not have Dare Devil and the X-Men (I hope this isn't true because Cross Overs are awesome). The Fantastic Four has high potential to be in an Alternate/Paralellel since there wasn't any interference from certain other characters (but there are flaws in that belief).
Marvel Comics likes Paralellel Universe to be a different Universe like the original. Where as Alternative can be short for Alternative Time Lines where characters are slightly off in events and it has altered the world... like in one in the 90's.. the Time Line and Paralellel Universe characters enter had them at the same age but Adolf Hitler was in rule.
What has happened is Fantasy Series of Books and Definations that Comic Book companies have created have carried over to Movies. Even though Movies rarely are Comic Book related. So thank your Comic Books for opening Movies to allowing terms like Trilogy and Parody,.. while Prequal and Sequal I believe were popular terms in books first.

Everyone is making it far too difficult. Four films is a tetralogy, not any of the other guesses.
TETRALOGY
"tetralogy, or four part movie sequence"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betrayed_(tetralogy)
For example, the Alien tetralogy is: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
