Glass Houses: The Morganville Vampires, book one, by Rachel Caine

is the story of Claire Danvers, an academically gifted young lady who, unfortunately for her, winds up going to college in a town populated by vampires and their human food source. When Claire runs afoul of the big woman on campus, she has no choice but to move out of her dorm and into Glass House. Once there, she learns the reality of life in Morganville, where vampires rule the night and the only humans safe from them are those who have sworn their loyalty.

Masquerade: A Blue Bloods Novel by Melissa De La Cruz

The sequel to Blue Bloods, Masquerade is the continuing tale of Schuyler Van Alen, a Blue Blood without a past. Blue Bloods are fallen angels transformed into vampires who are reincarnated with memories of their past lives, attempting to redeem themselves during their time on earth.

High School Bites by Liza Conrad
In High School Bites, Liza Conrad breathes a little fresh air into the growing subgenre of “chick-lit with fangs.” The bones of the story aren’t original- teenage girl with friends slightly outside the norm discovers she’s a vampire slayer, and a master vampire, with unimaginative minions, is out to get her- the plot and character motivations are all relatively predictable. But Conrad does something unusual- she “outs” her heroine, Lucy. In addition to her friends and teachers, her father and uncle not only know her “secret” but cheer her on. A modern slayer, Lucy has moved on past wooden stakes- now she’s armed with concentrated garlic and vampire-repelling perfume. On top of it all, everyone seems to be related to a character from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula- even the cat

If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -

1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin

2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker

These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.

Fiction?

Try all the books written by Clive Cussler.

The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These are well-written.

I used to make fun of people that got scared reading books, until I read "Mind Hunter" by John Douglas.

The book scared me so much, I read it with the window shades closed, and could not complete the whole book.

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

I hope this helps.

The da Vinci Code was a very suspenseful novel. But I would also recommend the Harry Potter series, if you are into that stuff.
