Need help my father is in ICU paralized and unable to speak. I need to know how to get power of attorney if he has no will and can not sign anything? Can anyone help?

In most Western countries there are "legal aid" type societies in most places that will help you out.

If your father can't make an informed decision to grant you a Power of Attorney, then you can't get one. What you would need is called a conservatorship. You need to have a court rule that he's incompetent to run his own affairs, and appoint you (or someone else) as a conservator.

Hi there,

Here in Australia we have a legal aid agency. They are not beginners at law but experienced people. They are employed by the government to help people who are on a low income. Or you can go and talk to the local magistrate, who is generally very approachable and very knowledgeable.

I can only guess that there would be a similar system where you are.

Call a local attorney....they might give you advice for free...thinking that they'd support you. Hey, it's how we live in tough times...you have to work the "system." Otherwise get free but useless advice from beginners.
