I'm not sure you can consider hunter a "big bat" He's never been known as a power guy even though he hit 31 and 28 HRs respectively the last two year. He is great on defense but so was Gary Matthews, whom the angels threw a large amount of money at last year. Add in the fact that hunter is about to be 33 and I don't see why they needed to sign him. i do not think hunter will be hitting 30 HRs. I don't understand why they traded cabrera either. This is a gold glove SS who was a good 2 hitter last year and garland has had one good year in his career. I think this means it will be hunter, vlad, and matthews in the outfield and garret anderson becomes the DH. The angels have been rumored to be offering hendrick, santana, and some other prospects for miguel cabrera. I think they should've spent the money on giving cabrera an extension once they acquire him. Given hunter all out defensive style and age, he is very susceptible to injury too. All that said, I don't think the angels should've spent 80 million on hunter.

Torii Hunter is just scratching the tip of the iceberg in that he is sure to get even better with the wealth of talent around him. Hunter is a hustling, go-get-'em ballplayer that will surely be a big help to the Angels. I was kind of sad to see him leave Minnesota, but the Twins had the chance to match any offer (Torii's own words), and couldn't come up with it. With this move and the acquisition of John Garland, the Angels can start printing up playoff tickets for next Fall.

Torii Hunter, when healthy, is a very explosive player. The Angels always make the right deal. And trading Orlando Cabrera for Jon Garland was a good move. Hopefully, it'll help your team.

He's an average outfielder. He doesn't hit for average only has 1 30 HR season. Never had an OBP over .340. Sure his glove is great, but it's a 5 year deal and he's getting on in years. I don't think his body can take 5 more years of diving after balls like that. I think you guys got a decent player, but you overpaid. 4 years 50 Million should be more like it.

As a fellow angel fan, I think it's definately a good sign. Matthews did way worse than expected...probably because he didn't have his HGH.
The only thing that worries me is that now that they have Hunter, they will stop persuing Cabrera. If they could add Cabrera too, that'd be great. (Just hoping they don't have to give up Kendrick)

big bat . . . huh . . . no
hunter is a good player, but does not address at all the "power outage", they better get cabrera or something . . .
matthews did just what was expected by anyone who followed baseball . . . sorry he is not worth what they paid him . . . so drop the suprise it was a stupid move for him
the angels better figure their **** out for trading the other cabrera for a highly questionable pitcher

I think it is an improvement, but certainly not a big bat. How can you call a career .271 hitter, who averages 20-30 hrs a year a big bat. Yes, he is a gold glove OF, Vlad is a big bat, not Hunter. He certainly is not worth $80 million, sorry.

I am so excited that the angels got torri hunter, they are now definetley one of the best teams. Their pitching rotation is great and they have a strong lineup. Think how their lineup would be with miguel cabrera or miguel tejada.
