I've had the perfect holidays in Kythira, an island where I stayed in a lovely hostel called Sfendonia, a restored house of the 17th century, I visited lovely beaches, byzantine churches, and a nice castle-town with a lovely antique shop. I went to swim in the crystal waters of a "blue lake" under a waterfall (I didn't manage to swim because the water was cold though), and I tried delicious home-made delicacies of the island. Wow, you made me nostalgic. Of course none of these would have mattered if I was there without the man of my life!

I have been there for years and as I am not going to be in Greece this holidays, I will give you my secret places.
Athens : Ok, spend 3-4 days to discover the real Athens, not only the museum but also strolling in National Garden, going in the suburb to see rebetiko music etc...
Saloniki : a must. A town that is not so easy to like but which makes you fall in love with Greece. The turkish old town is lovely.
Euboea : a wonderlful place to visit, from north to south but mainly north. Incredible landscape, the essence of mediterranean landscape, forest, small rivers in the north, to be visited before end of June.
Sporades : forget about Cyclades island. Discover the unspoiled places like Skyros or Alonissos. I know Alonissos pretty well. And I will give you one of the most beautiful place in the world. Take a small trek direction of Tsukali after Votsi. No car, bike is risky as it will be a narrow hill side trek. Then, you arrive on the other side of the island, unhabited. Only the forest of pine, the smells, the wave of the sea on the cliff and Aghii Panargirei, a beautiful abandonned byzantine monastery, a white spot on the green and blue. You keep following the coast until the trek goes down to a small cove, nobody around, crystal clear water and a fresh water spring in the sea water. This is why the place is called "turko nero", turkish water, a turkish bath, you swim inside the warm sea water and suddenly, there are pockets of cool fresh water floating. Incredible place, you will never forget. I took greek people there, they told me it was one of the nicest place they knew in Greece.
Chalcidic : very beautiful beaches around Sythonia
Aghios Ouros : Athos mountain, this is only if you are studying philosophy, religion or art. I went there in 1983, during 3 days. It is a separate province of Greece, almost independant, ruled by orthodox monks. To go there, you need a special kind of visa, only men can get it, it is called a diamonitirion. Historically and touristically, this is probably the most amazing place one can see in Greece. There are around 15 monasteries plus some small communauties. There are incredible number of old rare books, icons, architectural. This is a trip that cannot leave you intact.
And so much more......

My dream come true began in April 2000 with my arriving my first time in Athens. That first year the family took me to all the "must see" places and on day trips out from there. Now each year that I return I am always with friends I have made there as well as the relatives of my daughter.
I love to go to Halkidiki and relax for several days. Also, take the Flying Dolphin or the ferry to Poros and I stay with Zefi & Takis at their Saga Hotel. There you will find many guest who return each year because of the wonderful time they show you. On Poros there is many things to do but not so hectic as in the large city. This year took a ferry to another island and from there got a boat to a swimming area then the boat returned to pick everyone up later in the day. Was wonderful plus relaxing.
Thats the thing of Greece, you can find night life, relaxing life, friendly people who will be happy to make your stay wonderful.
Yes, my dream come true continues each year and now I have memories to last a lifetime.
