The brain is trained to conceive of thoughts in the way that your senses perceive the world. When you think, your brain is accessing the speech center to 'verbalize' the thoughts you are having.

[edit] As I said, they would conceive of thoughs in the same way they perceive the world, through sight. So they would visualize what they are thinking about. Just as you see images that you are thinking about.

Without any details, this looks more like an anatomical question. Following this I's have to say it's because your larynx and your hearing apparatus are attached to your body and sound travels well!

(edit) Who claimed that here? I know the sound of my own voice so I can imagine it. I hear it as a matter of anatomical structure. One is a matter of sense expression the other a physiological reality. Other than that, who can tell what you mean?

You cannot hear yourself inside your head. What you probably mean are your thoughts. You do not think in words all the time, do you? This is why deaf people or people who grew up with monkeys can think about themselves.
