Right now I have a Saturn 1996 SC2. I've had this car for 9 months now, it's my very first car, so of course, even though it's not my idea car, it's still my baby.
My boyfriend of 3 years has gotten me into the racing sceen. I'm not big on racing, but I absolutly love the cars, and being apart of it.
We've been looking at Honda Civic EX's. They're cheap cars, and easy to modify, but after look, i'm not so sure it's what I want.
Can anyone give me suggest as to other cars to consider? I need a few more idea's before I finally decide on a car.

you should look into the Honda fit. its a very inexpensive car, and the sport model looks cool, all you need is a nice drop to make it look like a tuner, and from the looks of it their coming out with a lot of aftermarket parts for it. ive seen some that just have a nice drop and some nice 15 inch rims, and they look cool, and if you want to avoid the real racers this is a car to look at, because if you go with the Ex or Si you will get guys like me wanting to race you.

Do not buy a modified Honda (or anything) unless you KNOW FOR A FACT that the seller (and you want to buy from the owner, not a dealer) is responsible and competent, and knows what they're doing, and that the modifications were in fact done well and done right.
There are too many idiots trying to sell their failed projects, and they WILL lie to you.
And don't be a ricer idiot. If you do any cosmetic mods, keep them tasteful. If you do any mechanical mods, do them right. (IMMA ADD A TURBO AND BIG FUEL INJECTORS ENGINE MANAGEMENT HAHA WHATS THAT AND WHY IS MY BUMPER ALL BLACK AROUND THE TAILPIPE NOW? ALSO SHOULD I TORCH MY SPRINGS OR JUST CUT THEM?)
Anyhow, if you don't need a back seat or a big trunk or hatch, you might consider a Miata. Same price range as the Civic, but buying one is less of a minefield of riceboys and terrible modification. Better handling, with similar potential for straight-line speed, and a VERY robust powertrain. You don't even have to start THINKING about modifying the engine internals, transmission, or differential until you get over 200 WHP, and you can probably go to 250 before it is really seriously advisable. All of it, engine, transmission, differential, are designed for larger or more powerful cars, but shoved into a 2500lb package. There are proven, reliable modifications available for relatively modest prices ( http://flyinmiata.com ). Also they're convertibles. Insurance is cheap, parts are cheap, and they're even easier to work on than a Honda.
Depending on how important fuel economy is to you, and what kind of speed you're going for, the Mustang would be a good choice, too. Bang-for-the-buck-wise, Fox and Fox II Mustangs are THE best option for straight-line speed, and support for modification. Maybe the GM F and G bodies come close with the Small Block Chevy, but Mustangs are cheaper. If you care about more than just straight-line speed, and you can spend a bit more, there's the 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra (and the 01-02, but those weren't supercharged), which had IRS, and thus could go around corners.
Dollar for dollar, a Civic will never compete with a Mustang in terms of straight line speed and acceleration. But most Civics will out-handle most Mustangs.

well there are many things to consider first yes honda civics are cheap cars that are made very well and they are cheap to modify witch is why most ppl buy them but if your looking for a car for the racing sceen then you do not need to go with a civic because when they are stock they are very slow alot of ppl who have civics think there in the fast and the furious and that there car is actually fast when in all reallity they run a 17 second quater mile I out ran civics by 5 and a half car lengths when i first got my accord and it was stock now that i have droped around 13000 dollars into the looks and motor of it i leave them around 11 cars so no if you want to race dont get a civic a real good car to get witch you can find for below 3000 dollars is an older rx7 witch come stock turbo and are pretty quit but they take alot of care as far as maint. to keep them up another good car is of course the sentra se-r they are fairlly quick and you can find them reasonably priced but they tend to brake down easily but if your looking for something with power and speed go with a pontiac trans am you can find a 02 ws6 trans am for normally around 12 thousand dollars but if you do get the chance to find one pick up and older mitsubishi eclipse gsx they are fun as hell to drive and you can find older ones for cheap my favorite car besides my accord out of the 6 i have is my 97 eclipse gsx i picked it up a year ago from a wrecking company for 600 bucks running and driving and to this day all i have spent on it is gas and oil changes and it runs 12.8 in the quater mile so there are manny cars out there to chose from and it all just depends on what you want do you want a car that you can race or do you want a car that you can trick out to look or if you want both and if thats the case find a nissan skyline witch you can pick up for around 20 thousand depending on where you look but the older ones have bad electrical problems i had a 96 it was only a single turbo rear wheel drive but it was still quick i had it for about 7 months before it caught an electrical fire and burnt down but yea if you want a car to race dont go with the civic

honda's are reliable but when it comes to racing its not such a fast car , trying looking into getting a evo 8 MR , or a wrx sti
both are good cars and you can find evo's not a days for less then 20k
if you still want to stick with honda go with the honda prelude and make sure it has a h22 engine , those are easy to mod and remember to drive safe
