Are all democratization efforts made by the USA doomed to be renamed attempts by corporations to gain new markets?Just because America is capitalist doesn't mean bankers and CEO's magically become scapegoats.Examples include how the war in Iraq was magically renamed a war for oil,how vietnam was called a war for american markets,or even Tony L's answer here.

A note to "Crabby_B"... you really have to get the history books out to read what really happened in Vietnam. We did not go in there to "cram democracy down their throats." You have to look WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back into the late 1950's and early 1960's to find out the REAL reason we got involved in Vietnam. Vietnam used to be a COLONY of FRANCE. It was being INVADED by the COMMUNIST CHINESE, and after years of the French TRYING to stop the invasions, they simply gave up trying and let Vietnam fall on it's own azz. Well...

The JFK (you know him... he's the one who was assasinated 44 years ago now) administration tried to HELP Vietnam (on THEIR OWN REQUEST)... and sent "advisors" over to train the Vietnamese army. Advisors followed advisors... troops followed troops, and eventually, under the Johnson administration, it became a full-blown (albeit an UNDECLARED) war.

We did NOT go in there to FORCE democracy. We were trying to HELP the existing government who ASKED for our help, to stop the communist invasion.

So, please... get your FACTS STRAIGHT, will you?

As for the original question... America is well capable of fielding a war. SUSTAINING a war is another matter. And the libs take full advantage of that in undermining America's efforts in whatever we do.

As for stopping the "new left," that's a tough one. They are like splinters that get under one's skin, and if not removed, can fester, become infected, and eventually can poison and kill the person. But like splinters, the way to prevent this from happening is to REMOVE the splinter as soon as possible and disinfect the injured area. But that's not easy to do, because it's not "PC" to do that.

Have a right-wing day.

How do you consider they might fare? And Liberals aren't in opposition to warfare. They are in opposition to dull, needless, get infantrymen killed for no intent past oil or revenge for daddy or a few indistinct biblical prophecy or anything the hell the truly intent for the Iraq War fairly was once form of warfare... Perhaps it might curiosity you to discover out that Obama INCREASED spending at the navy via four% in 2009 over what Bush did in 2008. More importantly, he accurately and responsibly left Iraq in order that we will be able to cognizance on ACTUAL terrorists.

America is very capable of fighting wars--theinvasion of Iraq proved that.

But America is NOT capable ofusing force to take over other countries and forcing democracy on them. The people of those countriesdon't like having some outsider come in and try to run their lives for them--and the quite jsutifibly fight back. That's what happened in Vietnam and is happening in Iraq.

Such "democratization" isn't spreading freedom--its an excuse for imperialism. It is unAmerican and it is morally wrong. We lost in Vietnam because we deserved to lose. And that will be the same for Iraq. This is a country that did not attack us, was not a threat, and had no ties to te people who did attack us. We have no business being there in the first place. And all the right-wing excuses and "spin"from now till doomsday will not change that.

If someone had a perfect system of government, lets say they had a living saint to lead them who performed miracles and was absolutly beyond reproach, would they have a right to bomb the United States into submission and force its citizens to accept their leaders rule?
Now before you say no lets add that they have a better economy and more comforts and absolute security, would they have the right to make us adopt their system of government?

You call this democratization. It seems perfectly reasonable to you. your system is much better then their system and you just want to let them have it too. Even if that means you have to conquer their country, torture their citizens and execute their leaders. Can you see anything at all wrong with that concept?

When people are ready for freedom they take it. If you try to force it on them before they are ready then they will fight you and they will keep putting people you detest in charge to fight you until they either run out of people or you stop. The ONLY way to spread democracy is by example. We were doing that fine till we started conquering people. Now countries are forming alliances against us because we are the threat, the oppressor, the villain of the piece.

I hate that this has become a fight between the right and left. I look at everything individually with an open mind. I might lean liberal because I believe when you go conservative you start to tell others what to believe. I kinda think of politics as a debate about peoples rights. But with conservatives today it seems like it means big business. Shouldn't conservatives be talking about limited government and conserving money. Maybe you should look into Ron Paul.

The left will see it's end. In fact, I would be willing to bet that the left will be nearly nonexistent by 2050. Technology works against them (whether they see that or not). A society simply cannot have a socialism and be technologically advanced. Technological advance will come, and all ideas of socialism will fade.

As a conservative, keep yourself informed, and spread your message (like you have just done on answers). People will see that you are correct, and those on the left are beyond wrong.

There is no such thing as a "modern liberal" any more than there is an "outdated conservative"...
(ok, nevermind, I guess I just proved you right)

Get over it! the "new Left" is nothing more than anyone who doesn't believe in the extremist views of right-wing fanatics, who think they are conservatives.
Sooner or later, you'll wake up and realize you're nothing but a crumbling ,rather annoying fringe movement.
