Santa Claus is a mythical creature that doesn't just give gifts, he gives a lump of coal to whomever he deems unworthy or bad.
The myth is perpetrated by the politically correct and the commercial residents of any given western country, Provence, state, county, city, town or village. It's a real money maker at Christmas time around here.
But please note the season, "Christmas", it means to have a holy " Mass for the Christ" in celebration of His birth amongst us. It's not a birthday bash, but a remembrance of God's Holy Salvation for us.
Society seems to have forgotten this in general. The mention of Jesus the Christ at Christmas is so charged with myth, lies, and deception as well as apathy these days that I despair.
This mass celebrates the coming of our salvation. The salvation of the whole world by God's grace and the historical date of the Christs birth was probably in late June, or early July about four to seven years before 1 A.D. So it would be somewhere around 2014 years ago to about 2011 years ago Jesus of Nazareth was born in Bethlehem.

In my understanding, Santa Claus was the agent of the infant god for the children's celebration. Meaning, the link of the infant god to the children is Santa Claus. He could be equivalent to Hermes or any bridge from a higher order to the lower order for a particular celebration.

There is a myth about santa clause. And then there is you and I. We can be like santa clause to someone who needs a gift of a human word or humane act of kindness.
God gave the world the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ so you are right. It is found in Luke 2:8-14..
" 8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Happy Christmas to you too.
