Group the like terms (all x terms together, and all numbers together):

6x - 2 + 2x = -2 + 4x + 8

(6x + 2x) - 2 = 4x + (8 - 2)
8x - 2 = 4x + 6

Now subtract 4x from both sides:
4x - 2 = 6

Add 2 to both sides:
4x = 8

Divide both sides by 4:
x = 8/4
x = 2

As a double-check, plug x = 2 back into your original equation to make sure it balances.

Left side:
6(2) - 2 + 2(2) = 12 - 2 + 4 = 14

Right side:
-2 + 4(2) + 8 = -2 + 8 + 8 = 14

Yes! They balance, so x = 2

Given: 6x - 2 + 2x = -2 + 4x + 8

* Combine similar terms..

Solution:
6x + 2x - 4x = -2 + 8 + 2
4x = 8

* divide both side by 4 to eliminate the coeficient of x and get the value of x., therefore

6x - 2 +2x = -2 +4x +8 combine like terms
(6x+2x) - 2 = (-2 +8) +4x (this is just rearranging the terms)
8x - 2 = 6 + 4x now subtract 4x from each side
8x - 4x - 2 = 6 +4x - 4x
4x - 2 = 6 now add 2 to each side
4x = 8
x = 2

6x+2x - 2 = -2+8+4x
8x - 2 = 6 +4x

First: combine "like" terms - subtract 4x from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

8x - 2-4x = 6 +4x-4x
4x - 2 = 6

SEc: add 2 to both sides
4x - 2+2 = 6+2
4x = 8

Third: divide both sides by 4.

4x/4 = 8/4
x = 2

Combine like terms....6x and 2x make 8x, and then simplify. 8x-2=4x+10. Check your work by plugging in any number as value of X. Ex.: x=3. 8(3)+2=22.....and 4(3)+10=22.

cancel out the 2s since a -2 on oneside added to the other would cancel out and create a 0.

from there it would look like this:

6x+2x=4x+8

From there, add 6x+2x= 8x

8x=4x+8
then subtract the 4x
4x=8
divide by 4
x=2
