One day my speakers just stopped working on my computer... in fact all of my sound has stopped working and it's really frustrating. I've tried two other kinds of speakers, albeit that i don't have the drivers for them, although they work on my brothers computer with vista just fine.
I thought it may be a virus so i clean booted the computer, but still nothing, when i pull up the sound area in the control panel it says that no speakers or headphones are set up, even when i plug them in... what do i do? what is the problem?

Before you reinstall the sound driver, go to the control panel and then system. Look at devices and see if your speakers may have an issue. If so, remove them and then reboot the computer. Plug the speakers back in and let them autodetect. If that doesn't do it, then try your driver for the sound card.

EDIT: Ceric, typically speakers DON'T need drivers, BUT this is Vista we are talking about. Also, I am going on the limited information and assuming these are USB driven which could be sending a signal back through the bus causing an error in the device drivers. But then, I think you already knew that!

Hi. The speakers do not need drivers. Neal is right, but also check your sound settings.
