I was wanting to install some ram onto my hp laptop because right now i have i think 256mb or ram installed and i was wondering because it has 2 slots with one of those slots taken already by the ram i have right now but i was wanting to buy a 1gb stick of ram to add to the second port, i know thats no problem i hope but the thing is, that can i go ahead and take out the old 256mb ram and install 2 1gb memory sticks in the available slots to upgrade my laptop without it going crazy and getting the blue screen of death?
I dont know if i can do this but here is the site to the ram i would like:
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=0CCDE139A5CA7304
and here is the ebay auction for the 2 sticks of 1gb of ram apiece that i might want but dont know if those are the right ones for my laptop: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150184222692&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005
so thanks to anyone who can understand what i am saying :)

Also one more thing, what does it mean when it say my system does not support dual channel?
Because from what i heard is that dual channel meant that you cant add 2 of the same ram sizes in the laptop but i could be wrong.

Hello,
I just upgraded my Compaq laptop (HP) from 1 GB to two 1 GB sticks. Everything has worked great. And,yes, it is crucial RAM. So far no RAM related BSOD (one for an update that went bad). Any who good luck

You should be able to multitask pretty well on that CPU, but the RAM will definitely make a big difference. 224MB RAM (with 32 of your 256MB for the video card) is barely enough for the services windows provides with SP2; you're probably using most of your RAM and a lot of virtual memory just with that setup. Upgrading to 1GB RAM will make a big difference.

if your motherboard can support 2 gigs of memory, it shouldn't be a problem at all. go ahead and install them.
edit: dual channelling is a special tech which allow you to run 2 memories simultaneously. to explain it simply, you will be using two lanes on which your programs can access your memory making it more efficient. it doesn't mean you can't add two of the same specs.

your computer takes pc 2100 or pc 2700 ddr sodimms, so yes you are looking at the right memory on ebay. the max memory your system can take is 2gb. you have 2 slots of memory, you should have either one 512mb module installed or 2 256mb modules installed. you can take out both of them and replace em with the 1gb ddr sodimms your getting on ebay. you wont get a blue screen

Hi. In my opinion you are better off with two identical sticks because you may be able to use dual mode, much faster.
