I agree to in most circumstances. Obviously humans need water, but other than that the human body and mind together can be an amazing machine (creation, or whatever you may call it.) It's something I had often told myself before I decided I would (try) to recover from my bulimia (anorexia at times, just overall ED.) It can be a very self-destructing thought in that way. It can also, if powerful enough, can be the sole reason for one's survival. My grandmother was told that she would have about 3-6 months before she would pass on because of cancer. She told me flat out that she WOULD NOT die. People (especially doctors) don't seem to notice how powerful the human (or any animal for that matter) will is. My grandmother is a very stubborn and willful-minded person, and she is my hero for that. All she did was tell her body it NEEDED to live, and watched some more old cartoons to make her laugh. And she's going strong 8 years later. I then have also known a past elder who after being told eight months to live, reached over, grabbed their loved one's hand and said, "See you on the other side." They then fell asleep, and 2 hours later, were found dead in the hospital bed. I really can't give you a plain agree/disagree, but I think the answer lies in a grey area that must be defined by each individual. Hope I answered your question.

I agree...at least for the most part. All humans have basic needs, of course, that are valid *needs.*

But, *I* don't *need* that great pair of shoes that costs about a quarter of my paycheck just because they would go with this new outfit that I thought I *needed* a couple of weeks ago...thought I *needed* until I realized I didn't have shoes to go with it! Cripes. It's all about self control. Now all I gotta do is put my pride down and return that as-yet-unworn outfit to the store I bought it from...and once I do that, I will have to utilize more self-control to keep myself from spending that money on other crap that I think I *need.*

I think it is very true... but self control is only part of it. You can want something but still have self control and just not get it. Having self control allows you to SEE the difference.. not necessarily accomplish it.

if i have to agree only on a different or depend on what situation but they are different from apart. NEED is something that you can't live without. For example, like water. we can't leave without water. WANT is something that you want right now but later on you don't want it or don't like it anymore. its someone that we carry and pass it on. so i can't either agree or disagree because then i have to live without one and that's will make life complicate.

Hmm... perhaps... makes sense the more I think about it. It is better not to want, but to not want would take a lot of self-control.

i think i agree...b/c everyone wants something, but it takes real self control to narrow it down to only what you need in life...

agree.

Humans need water to live. Humans want cold water to drink and hot water to bathe.

One of my new "philosophy's" is to Indulge at the right times. Thats why I dont smoke (trees) on my lunch breaks anymore. When your trying hard, you focus and try hard, nothing else. and then you reward yourself. Life is nothing if you cant indulge from time to time. but dont let it ruin your future.

Agree. I don't need to eat a lot of food today (Thanksgiving), but I want to!
