Like Maya Angelou (sp) or Bill Gates or Dr. Cornel West etc. or at least the people in government confered with more scholars before making decisions that have such an impact on the country and the world?
Have you ever known or encountered someone in your life who you thought should run for office because you were so impressed by their persona and their beliefs?

dg: To be honest for years I didn't even know who Al Sharpton was. I used to confuse him with Don King. LOL!
But as far as Jesse Jackson is concerned I think he started out as many do in politics whole heartedly to make America a better place for black people however I think that he got sidetracked and manipulated by people riding his coat-tails. That is also something that happens too often to people in politics.

That concept would be wonderful but neither Maya Angelou nor Cornel West would fit the bill. I'm surprised you didn't suggest Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Most of the people in the private sector who are so well-qualified are already using their talents to change and help the world, so going into public office would probably be a step backwards for them.
The big problem with public office is too many people seek it to further their own ambition for power and not enough seek it to help the country or local community.

Those people are good at what they do because they stick to what they do best. They would probably be lousy at politics. BTW, I do not consider Maya Angelou to be truly intelligent, I don't even find her to be much of a poet but at least she isn't a big racist fool like Cornel West

Iyt would be, but intelligent people don't want to see their life stories in the paper and on the news, specially the way the media spins a story.

No truly intelligent person in the private sector would risk damaging their credible reputations in my opinion. As soon as the campaign dollars start rolling in they would be labeled in one way or another.
