In my opinion, if you want to design, stick with paper and pencil, then edit yourself or use photoshop. Pc tablet drawing might not produce the result u want

Paper and pencil are, still, the best way to learn. It is not easy to go out and sketch from real life for several hours a day, if you limit yourself to digital art.

Practice, and, LOTS of it is how one gets better.

At some point, if one wants to get into commercial illustration, then some familiarity with the digital tools becomes important. Then, knowing how and becoming expert at the use of a digital tablet, and vector drawing tools can put an artist on par with other professionals.

The good thing is that none of these skills HAVE to be learned in the sequence I describe. You can, still, get an inexpensive drawing tablet, and have access to vector drawing tools, WHILE you are learning to draw.

The thing to remember is that NONE of the digital hardware or software will make you a better artist. If one wants to create good digital art, one must, FIRST, learn to create good art.

I don't know about PC tablets, since they are SO much more expensive than regular tablets. But my Wacom Intuos3, it's AWESOME. And you can save a lot of paper if you just want to doodle.

Unless you have a really powerful computer hard drive, stick to paper & scanning as the above poster says to do. My tablet is slow and and the pen is too hard to use. I have better control with the mouse option.
