Convince yourself that you are smart. There's nothing wrong with your brain if you can work out the maths equation. It looks to me that your word skills have not been used as extensively, so we'll have a go at fixing that.
Here's a problem for you. Try it.

Super Mag had 25 employees. It paid each of them $300 a week. How much was paid out each week?

Read the problem first. Underline the main words. Then tell yourself what they want you to find out. Each employee got $300. You could add $300 25 times but there is a quicker way that I am sure you know.

Now supposing the firm had $36000 profit that it wanted to share with the workers. How would you find the share for each person? Did you say that you would divide the money between them? Good.

Now supposing that 10 people had just started working there and were not entitled to the bonus. How much of the $36000 would the rest of the workers get?

Also suppose this. Super Mag decided to keep the extra bonuses itself. How much would each of the remaining workers get then ? If you can get this answer instantly, then you have understood the operations. Good on you. (Of course I am assuming that my explanation is clear. I have no evidence for that. It is very difficult to help without feed back. Make sure you ask your teacher if you do not understand.) Cheers!

Hey S G. Often the best approach to word problems is to just start writing down in equations the information that is given. Use variables (e.g. X, Y, etc.) for the unknowns that they are asking you to find. Then, construct equations with the variables, using the other information given. Then, solve the equations for the variables.

Best wishes and good luck.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are not going to learn problem solving the night before a test. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but it's true. The best way to get help with problem solving would be to ask your parents/friends, and if they can't help then ask your teacher. It's their job to teach you, so take advantage of that.

Another word of advice: Don't worry about tests the night before. Not only does it make you forget stuff you've learned, but it only leads to more hesitation and stress before the test. Just study in advance before the test and you'll be fine. Trust me, it works.
